This website has been established by Te Rūnanga-Ā-Iwi-O-Ngāpuhi to inform the Ngāpuhi nation as it embarks on the journey to settle Crown breaches against Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

As Tūhoronuku the kite of Rāhiri soars high in the sky, it reminds us of the story of how our tūpuna Rāhiri settled and united the land for his two sons, Uenuku and Kaharau. It serves also as a metaphor for the dreams and aspirations of the Ngāpuhi nation.

This is arguably the single, most important issue that faces Ngāpuhi at this time, it could also be the greatest opportunity that we will have to make an immediate impact in the present and will enable us to plan a viable , long term future for Ngāpuhi. We invite you to join us on the journey.

Your Rūnanga, Te Rūnanga-A-Iwi o Ngāpuhi will hold hui with the Ngāpuhi nation to keep them up to date with progress on these important matters. Pānui for the hui will be notified on this website.

This Ngāpuhi whakatauki tells of a dangerous and seemingly impossible journey by courageous Ngāpuhi explorers as they piloted their waka through turbulent waters into the safety of the Hokianga Harbour.

On seeing the boiling water at the entrance to the Harbour Nukutāwhiti, the Captain of the Waka Ngātokimatawhaorua, asked his Tohunga to offer this incantation on their behalf to calm the waters and allow them to cross the notorious sandbar of the Hokianga Harbour.

The work ahead will see some turbulence and perhaps there will be whitewater - yet with powerful karakia we will conquer adversity and continue our vision for Ngāpuhi as a nation.
