Hokimate Dixon

Education is very important to me. I would like to see Ngāpuhi build their own Whare Wananga for the whole of the Tai Tokerau, especially for our Māori people; with a wide range of subjects including te reo Māori.  I’ve been told “What can Māori achieve in speaking te reo, it doesn’t get them anywhere?” This statement has been proven wrong.

My daughter is currently studying clinical psychology, and she is doing this so that she can be a nurse for the Māori people.  Many Māori would have a better understanding of what is being said, if spoken in te reo; very important in the medical profession.

My aspiration for Ngāpuhi is that we should join together and make it a better place to live in, and awhi each other no matter what.
